Hi - As of this morning, my Avid Media Composer crashes every time I start it. It get almost through the start up process.... I see my bin tabs loading and then it's done. The first thing I did was unistall the driver for my new Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor 4k since that was the last plug that was installed. Didn't help. I then deleted the "Color Presets" since that's the point of the loading process where it always seemed to crash,. I also deleted the MC State. I even unstalled and reinstalled Avid. Nothing helps! I have a 2020 Mac Pro with Catalina and the latest 2020.4 Media Composer Ultimate. Any help appreciated!!!!!

Your Titler Pro for Avid License is Expiring
I got an email from Avid about Your Titler Pro for Avid License is Expiring. On November 14th, 2019, existing Titler Pro for Avid licenses will stop working and installers will be removed from My Avid accounts.

I think now is the time for Avid's new titler tool Titler+ to take over and be really well intergrated into the Media Composer software. Marquee was a great titler and if this can be modernised and ported into Avid Media Composer 2019x with resolution indepdence that would be great. As The Titler+ in Avid is the new default titler I don't see this happening with Marquee. So The next step I think and everyone else may agree or disagree would be to have an easy to use robust, powerful titler for Titler+ right directly in Avid.

relinks to Audio, not to Video - Bug? MC 18.12.7
Help! Some clips do not relink to video, but do relink to audio.
History:
I have a project of which the GoPro (1080p25) (and another helmet camera) footage is imported and consolidated on a Nexis system.
All footage is imported in one Import bin and then consolidated and placed in a Footage bin, per GoPro card.
The Import bin now has ‘,old’ clips. The Footage bins hold .new clips.
And in the Footage Bins the footage is placed in a sequence.
A copy of the bins and of the MXF folders is made to a local drive.
Now when I open those Bins on another computer (same MC Version) from the local drive everything is offline.
So I select all in that Bin and relink.
Then sequence comes online but SOME of the clips (RANDOM?) are not relinked to the .new files, but ONLY the video is relinked to the .old files.
The audio (which is separate MXF-files) is linked correctly.
If I look at those troublesome clips in the footage bins, then I see that the .new files have offline media for the video, but not for the audio.
‘Reveal file’ for both the .new and the .old clips point to the same MXF files. (with the .new clips only pointing to the Audio MXF’s)
So: Video is there!
In some instances even the video of the .old files do not relink. Although the video is there in the MXF folder.
My question: How can I force the .new clips to relink it’s video?
What i tried, but did not solve the issue
Relink:
ON: reload Media Database, relink master clips, Start, TapeName/SourceFileID (also tried SourceFileName), Ignore extension (also tried to uncheck this), allow relink across rates.
OFF: Relink only to media from the current project, Match case when comparing source names
video paramaters: Any, Highest
I did try to show all columns in the Bin and compare .old to .new clips. All settings are the same, except V1 is Offline for some of the .new clips
I did rebuild mob
I did split the MXF folders to smaller folders.
I did Show Sources in: Clips have the same source, although in SOME instances of the problematic clips there were 2 sources: ‘Clipname’ and ‘Clipname.MP4”
I did drag the mdb file in a new Bin and tried to relink the sequences that hold the problematic clips to relink using selected items in all open bins —> No clips were relinked.
I did trash my preferences
I did open the Import bin next to the Footage bins, in the hope avid relinks then. But it dowsn't. Even tried to put .new clips in the same bin als the .old clips to Force Avid to see the MXF file
ALL Clips are renamed BEFORE imported into AVID. So relinking to wrong clips with the same name is impossible (which could occur with DJI files for instance)
The problem seems not to occur on Sony A7 footage.
searched the fora. Only comparable AMA relinking problems seem to come close. But no solution works.
I run out of ideas.

2020.5 crashes on mac
Getting this a few times a day - seems to be when I have just tried to 'lift' video clips out of sequence. Sequence is pretty much all AMA linked.

2020.5 optimise EDL cannot be checked?
I don't create a lot of EDLs so maybe this hasn't been there for a while - but I'd rather lose the edits that are only there for level changes on a music cue EDL

Import and linking of jpg file sequence broken in 2020.4
Unfortunately, I've discovered that both linking and importing of jpg file sequences is broken in AMC 2020.4.
I have tried a variety of jpg sequences in 8 bit exported from Houdini, and the link gives me a message that about 1-2% of the files cannot be linked and asks if I want to import these. I have tried various sequences, and it does not appear to do with the color space. I might have better luck with exr sequences, but I was trying to save some disk space.
Import will generally pull them all in and has the advantage over linking that they can come in as a sequence rather than as individual images. But regardless of settings, the quality is bad, even with set to ProRes HQ. If I add this sequence to a timeline and export as h264, the quality is much worse than FCPX, Davinci Resolve, Premiere, or After Effects and the file size is slightly larger than the exports I get from the other programs.
It seems that the new version of AMC is much pickier about images and movie imports than before. To get things to work, I often have to open and resave in Photoshop or Davinci Resolve to get something that works in Avid. It is pretty frustrating.

Avid Media Composer & DaVinci Resolve Round Trip Bug/Defect
OS: MacOS Catalina 10.15.4
Avid Media Composer: 2020.04.0
DaVinci Resolve: 16.2.1.017
Encountered error during a round trip workflow: Avid Media Composer to DaVinci and then back to Avid Media Composer. Issue occurs while importing DaVinci AAF back into Media Composer to complete the round trip.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Import clips in Avid Media Composer and create sequence.
2. Export sequence to AAF (video only workflow, drop audio).
3. Import AAF into DaVinci Resolve (swap out low resolution clips for BRAW as needed).
4. Apply grade and Deliver 'Avid AAF' basic settings (unique file names).
5. Import AAF into Avid Media Composer (step produces error).
Note: Also tried using /Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/0/ (folders) import method.
Online posts seem to suggest it's a fairly common workflow and should be supported.
Issue appears to be in Avid Media Composer, but could be file produced by AAF Resolve, so covering all basis here.

FASTER THUMBNAILS - was Thumbnails keep changing
2018.12.9 on OSX 10.14.1
I just started a project and the thumbnails I see in either Frame View Tab or Script View Tab keep changing. And when the change they are Thumbnails from other clips!!!
Any ideas?

EDIT: I THINK I MIGHT HAVE FOUND IT. I noticed that Faster Thumbnails was on. Turned it off and they seem to have gone back to what they should be. Will keep an eye on it.
Ok that was definitely the issue. BUT .... This feature seems to be turned on in ALL my bins. I can not figure out how to disable it globally HELP!!!

Catalina 10.15.5 -- okay to upgrade?
I have run into two major issues by upgrading my Mac Pro to Catalina 10.15.4 -- cannot copy large files and my machine will randomly refuse to boot up and sometimes go into recovery mode. My understanding from Apple support is that 10.15.5 fixes both those issues and also has many fixes specific to the Mac Pro. Since this release is heavily focused on only bugs, is it okay to use MC on 10.15.5 or is it advisable to wait? Thank you.

Catalina + MC 2020.5.0.55039.0
Hi every one,
Well, I did something I've never done before… jumping to a new OS and a new version of MC in the same time.
So now, I'm on CATALINA and the MC version 2020.5.0 … and I AM A BIT LOST.
First, where is "NEW TITLE" ? I don't want to use NewBlue Title Pro, I juste want to use my old friend "TITLE"
One other thing, when I try to make some export the presets are not the one I saved and when I change them it 's changing the preset's name from I start (I don't know how to explain it… it is crazy).
I'm sure I'll find many other problems but this the first I saw…
Is there some one to help me ?

New Blue Titler Pro activation
Out of nowhere my titler pro shows a red cross. New blue app manager says it can not activate it via avid servers
(Unable to activate because of failure to communicate with AvidELF)

update:
Tried to sign out and sign in in the nw blue app. Doesn´t help.
Uninstalled all new blue apps and checked my avid downloads. Can´t find new blue titler pro anymore. Instead I found new pro titler 7 essentials. Tried to install that, problem ist the same in new blue app manager - it can´t activate new blue titler pro. Even worse the effect ist now unknown in my timeline and I get a bunch of new new blue effects, that I don´t even wanted - all watermarked /in demo mode of course. What did I miss?

List Tool problem on Catalina with 2020.5
I have a simple sequence with 7 video tracks.
Each track has a different clip of the same duration at the same record time.
I'm making a file_32 EDL with markers and clip names on. Using sort mode A.
Whenever I hit Previw or Update in the list tool the events are in a different random order.
Impossible to figure out which clip is on a higher track

Import Issues MC 2020.5 with Catalina 10.15.5
tdalauro - I just got a brand new MaBook Pro today and downloaded Avid 2020.5. Running on 10.15.5 Mac OS Catalina. I'm trying to import both MPEG - 4 H.264 files and Quicktime H.264 files and I can't link or import like I used to in older versions of Avid. Trying to do some reading now but if you have any suggestions on workflow or what I should use to convert and ingest the files I would greatly appreciate the feedback.

NewBlue Titler Pro 7 endless crashing Avid for atleast a year!
Has anybody every used NewBlue Titler Pro 7 where it hasn't crashed the Avid every time you use it, every title, anywhere, anytimne under any conditions. I would like to see a show of hands.

Serious problem, Assertion failed
Hi,
Suddenly, after not being able to export a sequence, Avid MC stopped working properly.
After booting the application, when I open a project I get the following error message:
assersion failed: m_valid File:/Builds/workspace/MC/Release_installer_Git/Mac_Build/coresw/VolumeUI/volMenuUtils.c Line: 1089
then I can choose from debugger, continue, exit applictaion or create report, but I can't work. if I choose continue, I'll get this message on everything I try to do.
It happens in all my projects, including a newly creatd one.
I tried the following:
Restart the computer
uninstall and install Avid MC again
Deleting the latest render files, thought maybe they caused the problem.
but the problem persists. Please help! I can't work!

MC Freezes
Wondering if this happens to anyone else. For my work I need to have firefox open so I can download production music and also check work emails and download notes etc. Also have Slack going where we share cuts from producers and other editors on the series.
I find that if I just hide AVID and then go back to it, it either freezes, or I can't close bins or select clips from the bin I was working in, especally if I'm scoring the cut. I then have to exit AVID and go back in. As I need to do this fairly reguarly it's annoying. Is this something I have to live with or is there a workaround or settings? With a 16-Core processor I thought I would't have this issue anymore. Would love to know what other editors do in this situation.

transcoding from 4K to 1/4 Avid DNxHD. How much hd space needed?
Hi there,
I'm going to see if I can use a 10TB drive that's almost full of 4K material in my 2010 Mac Pro (I have four free 3.5"-drive slots).
If a drive this large works, then I'll need another big SATA drive, or two, because my only hope of editing a new 4K project (I was looking into buying a Mac Mini because at least it has Thunderbolt and USB3, but it started gettiing expensive when I realized I had to add an eGPU and an external 4-drive hd bay, etc.) is to use the fast internal bus (is that the right term?) and internal hard drives, in my old Mac Pro.
So my question is: if I transcode 10TB of 4k footage, to, let's say, 1/4 resolution DNxHD files, will these files take up more than 10TB of hard drive space? Or less? Is there an Avid calculator I can use? I just want to get the right size hard drive(s).

eGPU Support in the Pipeline?
After a bit of scouring, it seems like no one has posed the inevitable question: Are we going to see eGPU support in MC?
I just picked up a Sonnet eGFX breakaway box with an AMD Radeon Pro wx7100 to support BMD Fusion & Resolve, but Avid seems to be limited to the display GPU on my MacBook Pro (Radeon Pro 560).
If anyone has some tips or has an MBP + eGPU setup running into MC, do let me know.
