Applying Quick Transition Causes Crash/Unresponsiveness

I just got a 2019 Macbook Pro 16" and was trying out MC 2020.5.0 on OSX 10.15.4. For the most part it's running great, but I noticed that every time I add a quick transition it causes the whole interface to choke. I am unable to start playback at any point within the sequence, even though I can move the BPI. I've messed with this a bit, and even after removing the transition I'm unable to work so I close and restart Avid. Once the process of reopening Avid begins I will normally have a crash. Opening it a second time works though. If the transition is still applied then I will have to option open the project, otherwise it will crash.

My sequence has a few dissolves in it so I've been able to save those to a bin and apply them that way, which doesn't cause any issues, but this seems like a pretty big issue. I don't believe it has anything to do with my configuration, this is a brand new computer and I have very little additional software on it.

Anyone else experiencing this?

New Blue Titler Pro activation

Out of nowhere my titler pro shows a red cross. New blue app manager says it can not activate it via avid servers

(Unable to activate because of failure to communicate with AvidELF)

@Marianna can you help?

update:

Tried to sign out and sign in in the nw blue app. Doesn´t help.

Uninstalled all new blue apps and checked my avid downloads. Can´t find new blue titler pro anymore. Instead I found new pro titler 7 essentials. Tried to install that, problem ist the same in new blue app manager - it can´t activate new blue titler pro. Even worse the effect ist now unknown in my timeline and I get a bunch of new new blue effects, that I don´t even wanted - all watermarked /in demo mode of course. What did I miss?

Avid Media Composer & DaVinci Resolve Round Trip Bug/Defect

OS: MacOS Catalina 10.15.4
Avid Media Composer: 2020.04.0

DaVinci Resolve: 16.2.1.017

Encountered error during a round trip workflow: Avid Media Composer to DaVinci and then back to Avid Media Composer. Issue occurs while importing DaVinci AAF back into Media Composer to complete the round trip.

Steps to reproduce:


1. Import clips in Avid Media Composer and create sequence.
2. Export sequence to AAF (video only workflow, drop audio).
3. Import AAF into DaVinci Resolve (swap out low resolution clips for BRAW as needed).

4. Apply grade and Deliver 'Avid AAF' basic settings (unique file names).

5. Import AAF into Avid Media Composer (step produces error).

Note: Also tried using /Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/0/ (folders) import method.

Online posts seem to suggest it's a fairly common workflow and should be supported.

Issue appears to be in Avid Media Composer, but could be file produced by AAF Resolve, so covering all basis here.

Error messages in Avid Media Composer (in order of appearing):

2020.5 Sudden Unsupported Format Error

Hello all,

Just a quick post to maybe help someone else whose project they've been hammering for days suddenly produces an Unsupported Format error which forbids any playback of any previously played material or, frighteningly, edits.

No new material introduced or ingested - it just started doing it, true to form, right up against delivery to a client.

The forums suggest:

Trash the msm's (didn't work)

Trash MCState (didn't work)

Trash user prefs and make new user (didn't work)

Uninstall and reinstall Media Composer (didn't work)

I since found out that my PROJECT had become corrupt.

Setting up a new project, and opening my previously-unplayable edits bin in that new project solved the issue.

All working perfectly - access to all the edits, material and settings and delivery to client happened on time.

What's slightly worrying is... how can my project "just" corrupt itself?

MC 2020.4 - Export MOV in different Pixelsize ???

Hi

Am I missing something - I wanted to export my sequence to a MOV H264 2 MBit - so far so good. 

But there is no way to change the Pixelsize of the exported clip (only native) and also ONLY PCM sound export.

Which results in a large clip - no AAC or MP3 Soundformat....

 

At least I finaly could edit on my MBP 16 Catalina .3 and no crashes ;-)

 

Any ideas ??? how to get small preview H264 MOVs for my client ?

Does anyone else have an end of year decision to make? I'd really like to purchase a Mac Pro with 2019 money but have serious concerns about when I can actually use the hardware. Also, any suggestions as to which configuration are very welcome.

Titler+ Colour Picker lockup

Mac OS 10.15.3. The 2020.4 Readme says:

"Color Picker in Titler+ has been normalized like other pickers: click to pick a color, double-click to open the color chooser."

I can do the one-click to sample but trying a double-click to bring up the chooser locks up the system completely after a couple of attempts. Done it three times in succession now. To clarify, this seems to be a problem when creating gradients. Just colouring the entire object with one colour seems to work. Gradients worked fine on earlier releases.

Also, when it locks up, the Force Quit window does not say 'Not responding' but I have to Force Quit (now for the fifth time).

Moving files Error

Whenever I succesfully (or unsuccessfully) transcode media - I get this error trying to move files in and out of a bin - whether to another bin or to the preview monitor. Results in having to restart MC before I can start moving files again. 

Everything else works fine in the meantime, but i cant just move files

2020.4 Crashing while dropping a saved effect on the timeline

Anyone else had an issue dropping saved effects from a bin onto a clip on the timeline in 2020.4?

Causes MC to crash but selecting the clip and double clicking the effect in the bin is fine.

Only bug I've come across in 2020.4 so far, smooth sailing otherwise.

 

MC 2020.4

Mac Pro 4,1->5,1

2 x 3.46 Xenon 5690's

48gig Ram

ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB

High Sierra

Closed Network: MC and other applications hanging on startup

Client has a closed network with ISIS and several CPU's running MC, Adobe package, DaVinci Resolve etc.

Most CPU's are qualified [older] Mac Pro's running Mojave 10.14.6 [clean install jan 2020) and MC 2018-12-10.

One new Mac Pro running Catalina 10.15.4 and MC 2020.5.

Evry time after a CPU restart every major software [Avid, Adobe, BlackMagig] will hanng during startup (at least 20min or more - occationally programs then finally boot) - unless allowed access to internet (WiFi enabled). Untill next restart things seem to run smoothly.

I noticed the same behaviour when isntalling software - no matter if it was MC or just some small AMA plugin - for example plugin that usually takes 1-2m to install took 12-15m.

New Mac Pro got even worse after updating to Catalina 10.15.4

Permanently activation Internet access is not a good choice - it may breach security regulations imposed by Netflix and the like - and using WiFi cuts of connection to non-avid disk servers hosted off side.

As far as I can see it looks like Apple is requiring the OS to re-validate all non-APPSTORE installed software

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour and perhaps found a solution?

Relink in MC v2020.4 / v2020.5

Hello there !

I'm a newcomer around here and I hope to benefit from experienced users around the world, exchange and maybe help where I humbly can. So... Hello ! Smile

I post here today because I tried the relinking on the new MC v2020 and was surprised to see that upon relinking offline master clips with online ones, the offline ones became linked master clips without associated media files, as opposed to master clips with media files. To be sure that it did not came from me, I tried on different workstations, projects and users. Maybe it's a new way of process that I missed on v2019, but maybe it's not meant to be, either, I prefer to come here and ask first.

Tried on MacPro Ivy Bridge, with os Mojave and Catalina, and with MC v2020.4 and v2020.5.

Audio Suite Time Compression

I have one long narration track that has been edited into segments. Some of these segments I want to speed up using Time Compression in AudioSuite. When I do so, the clip pulls in the next words of the narration (that have been edited out) to the end of the clip. Now have to make another edit to trim the sped up audio to remove the adjacent audio. This is a new bug to 2020.4 & .5

Export to Desktop is default location

When I choose to export a file in 2020.4 or .5, the default location is always the Desktop. in previous versions, the location was the last folder chosen. Is this a bug? Older versions of MC did not have this problem. Other programs like Photoshop export to the last used folder.

Avid Bin Saved Position Problem w Dual Monitor Setup

I keep all my bins open on my left hand monitor. After I close a bin, it always opens up on the left egde of my right hand monitor instead of where I saved it. And I have to drag it back left. Major pain.

At the end of the video you can see my monitor layout in System Preferences.

I am currently running 2020.4 on a Late 2015 5K iMac and Catalina, but have had this issue for at least a year, going back several versions of both OS and Avid.

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone solved it?

Sample Buffer error - urgent

I have been cutting on my MacBook Pro. The HD got full at one point. I have now dealt with that issue and there is plenty of hd space. My sequence is corrupted though - it plays through to nearly the end and then it freezes every time. I get "SampleBufferDesc:DefineBufferAlignment() - target sample is entirely past EOF".

I have tried rebuildiung media databases, creating a new user, cutting my sequence into a new one, including just laying in the music first and then building on that, and opening my bin in a new project. Nothing works.

I've cut this video for my daughter's 18th and her birthday is on Tuesday!

Any advice anyone? Thank you.

Can I convert AVdn files without compression ?

I am reposting this because it is an urgent issue in my current archiving process.  Marianna, or someone, please answer!

Dear fellow Avid users,

On May 4, 2020 I upgraded Media Composer to version 20.4.0.55005.--the first upgrade since MC version 7.07.  I am running it on an iMac with High Sierra OS 10.13.6.  All files that I have previously exported as AVdn, especially large ones of, say, an average 50 GB, will not open on my desktop anymore. Sometimes QT tries to convert them to tiny mp4 files equivqlent to Handbrake files. 

My goal is to export archival files for preservation, and I find that I can do 10-bit uncompressed as Pro Res 422 or 4444 at large sizes with good results.

However, my question is what to do with the files I previously exported as archival AVdn but which I cannot open anymore. In some cases they are years old, and I no longer have the original timeline masters or the hard drives they were on.

This may be an old issue for Avid; I have been off the forum for a few years. So, forgive me if this has been dealt with before but please refer me to the correct answers.

Import compatibility

Has import file compatibility suddenly become very limited? Plain MP3s from Freesound don't want to import any more and converting to an M4A in Quicktime doesn't help either. I know the Universal Media Engine and bla bla, but this is a bit silly. Is there an updated list of compatible formats and codecs?
