Segment mode Glitch in 2019? Or is it a new behaviour?
I often lasso clips in the Timeline. It puts me in Segment mode and I can move those clips.
With 2018 and before, I could have the yellow and the red mode (pre)activated in the Segment Tool selector on the Timeline, and so after lassoing a bunch of clips, I could decide if I wanted the red arrow or the yellow arrow by aiming at the top of the bottom of a selected clip in the Timeline (hard to explain with text, I know!).
With 2019, when I lasso clips, it just defaults to Red arrow mode. I added the arrow selector above the Timeline, and if I put it in Yellow or Red/Yellow mode before lassoing the clips, I always end up with selected clips in Red arrow mode. It's slightly annoying.
I mapped the Arrow modes to the keyboard, so I can hit Yellow once the clips are lassoed, and this way I'm back to the "old" behaviour I'm used to: chose an arrow mode by clicking on the top or bottom of one of the selected clips as I drag them. I'd love not to have to add the extra key press though.

Titler+ Not exporting crawling titles
Hi,
I have some crawling titels and all seems ok. But when I export the sequence the crawling titels do not apear in the export.
I am on Mac with AVID 2020.4.0
Is this a bug??? If yes, then very anoying.... Any work arounds?

2020.5 GUI not showing for track plug-ins
Had this intermittently over a number of versions, sometimes calling up a difffernt workspace will fix it, or going to a different plug-in location and back to the no-show. Mostly have to quit and restart app.
Sometimes just coming to write a post on this forum then going back is enough to fix it...
Also does anyone know how to reset the export default location - do I have to delete project state or similar? It's defaulting to the export location of a different project ATM

Advice about a Mac machine, tight budget
Hello everyone,
I'm just looking for advices, I need a new machine for media composer and unfortunately I'm forced on a Mac system.
I need a system that can handle transcode , exports, syncing, multicam (1080p files mostly dnxhd36).
I will do some light editing as well on small projects.
i was thinking about the Mac mini with the i7, for media composer is that bad not having a discrete gpu?
As far as I know most of media composer activities are handle by the cpu, and the 8th gen i7 is more than decent.
anyine has experience with the Mac mini?

Dongle Revisited
Hey folks,
I did a quick search but didn't find the answer I was looking for. Hopefully someone has a quick one for me.
I started a new job this week and part of my onboarding was a new MacBook Pro. I'll be splitting my time on that and my home system which still has USB ports for the dongle. Obviously, the MacBook does not. Yes, I can use the adapter but it's clunky. Third World problem I know, but the OCD makes me twitch. Anyway, in the old days of software activation you had to call or otherwise transfer a licenses between two machines if you only had one license. Is this still the case? Do the automatically phone home and if one machine is working the other will not? How is this handled now?

can I edit doc (for web) using 720p proxy files—and skip the huge 4K files?)
Hi there,
I've been asked to edit a project for which 170 interviews (totalling more than 200 hours) were shot on a small camera that simultanesously recorded both 4K and 720p HD (H264, 8.79 Mbps) files.
The doc I've been asked to help with is destined for web broadcast only, I'm told, so the producer has suggested I use the small 720p files only... and not worry about the 4K files. This would make life much easier for me, because my old 2010 Mac Pro isn't up to 4K editing.
Is this the right plan, would people say? One of my worries is that someone might change his/her mind later, and want a 4K version.
I could get a new Mac Mini, that I think would allow me to work with 4K files, but unless the process of 'rezzing up' is a pretty straightforward one I'm afraid of getting in over my head (I'm not technically gifted). Fifteen years ago, when I worked at a big broadcasting corporation, the editor would simply pop in the Sony betacam tapes we'd shot, and Avid would select just the right clips, and bit by bit the whole item was up-rezzed. But I'm not sure it would be that easy for me, here in my home office.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Phonetic Indexer hanging
I've had a problem on 2018.10 where I can't eject a media drive (once avid has quit) because macOS says an application is still using it. It seems that the process that is still using the drive is Avid Phonetic Indexer and it's usually red in the Activity Monitor. I can quit the process there and the drive ejects. But something is causing the phonetic indexer to get stuck. Is it suppsed to stop running when I quit avid? Could there be something that got corrupted in the phonetic index on that drive that is causing the problem? Looking for troubleshooting advice. For the record I have only used this particular drive with 2018.10 and no previous versions so this isn't necessarily a 2018.10 issue. I was running 2018.5 before this.

Adding a Plugin to a Workspace
Hi There
I like working with a specific audio meter which is a plugin that you add as a track effect to the Master Track in the Audio Mixer. Sadly the window "Audio Track Effect Tool", which holds that audio mixer, is always free floating over my tidy workspace. Is there a way to insert it into a costumer workspace, as it is possible with the audio mixer and other tools.
Avid 2019.11.0 on MacOs 10.13.6

2020.5 SearchData-Directory Location error in MC2019
Hello,
if I'm creating a new project on 2020.5 and switch to an 2019.12, I get the following error when opening this project:
"Unable to create the search data directory"
"Invalid search data directory" ... "Please set location manually"
The Search Settings come up and as location I have to chose "default" (Project Folder). Then it works.
Creating a new project in 2020.5 and setting the location to default in the first place has the same issue.
So it doesn't matter what I chose in 2020.5, the error always seems to occur in earlier versions.
No problem for me, but for some editors this could lead to confusion.
I does not seem to be possible to chose the Proejct-Folder as destination because the folder simply does not exist yet.
Is this so?

changing the 5.1 audio format after clip has been cut into a sequence?
Hi,
I'm editing a showreel and using 5.1 stems for the many different productions.
I'm just after noticing that some of the 5.1 files I cut into my stringout sequences have the dialogue on channel 2 (i.e. are in the ProTools 5.1 format) and some of them have the dialogiue on channel 3 (i.e are in the SMPTE 5.1 format).
I can use 'modify clip' to change all the source audio to one matching format (e.g. ProTools), and while this updates the channel order for the source file, it doesn't do so for the clips that have already been editd into the sequence.
Is there any way to get the clips already cut into the sequence to update their channel order? (The reason this is an issue is because I have hundreds of selected clips in various different timelines, so rebuilding the select reels isn't an option. I've just swtiuched editing location and it's only then that I became aware of the issue. I think my previous location/hardware had be outputting everything in stereo, maybe that's why I'm only noticing the issue now....)

2020.5 Consolidating Progress is counting/showing wrong/strange
Hello,
I am consolidating 79 Clips from a Sony FS7.
The Progress Bar shows the following:
So, 79 Clips, 10 Tracks each (V, A1-8, D) makes 790 tracks. The numbers are correct so far.
The progress itself (X of X) does not seem right. The picture implies that 28 tracks of 790 tracks are done but in reality 28 clips (=280 tracks) are done.
Therefore the progress bar finishes with 79 of 790 which is confusing.
So, either it has to be "280 of 790 (79 Clip(s)) - multi tracks simultaneously" or "28 of 79 Clip(s) (790 mutli tracks ...)".
I think we had this issue already some versions back.

Group audio tracks in a certain order
I'm working with some archive material and I'd like to group the Dialogue, FX, Music and Vo audio tracks to the archive video. Whats more I'd like the grouped audio tracks to be in a certain order. Is that possible. For instance All the source track identify as tk 1. Can I take a tk 1 track and group it so it appears as track 4?
All I get at the moment is them all grouped to track 1.

SYS_ERROR, OSErr:-5000 I've tried everything
I know there are dozens of threads on this issue, but I've tried every single fix suggested, and non of them are working for me. Tech Support has been very slow in responding under the circumstance.
I launch AVID Media Composer Ultimate
It goes through the entire launch process.
Then stops with the alert box - SYS_ERROR, OSErr:-5000
Multiple posts have suggestions and I've tried them all.
I repaired Home Permissions on the Mac
I reinstalled the OS. (They told me 10.15.4 would be reinstalled, but it upgraded to .5)
I started without external drives attached.
I removed all Cache files, I removed all the preference files.
No matter what I do I still get the error.
>I do NOT get the error when I sign in under a new user<
I cannot find the corruption in my admin user, thinking the cache or prefs would have fixed it, but it didn't.
Any additional thoughts would be great before I erase everything and start from scratch.

Audio clip in source monitor starts later than where it was paused
Im having an issue in MC 2020.5.
When having an audio clip in the source monitor it will not play from where it was paused. It will play from a later point in the clip, as if the playback carries on after it was stopped. It does this without playing the audio.
This only happens with audio clips. Video clips with audio, reacts correctly.
we are working on mac os Catalina on a shared project. Another editor has mc 2020.4 and doesnt have this problem.
Machines are the same.

Avid 2020.5 always crash at ""Color Correction Presets"
I'm working on an iMAc Pro (2017), 3,2 ghz Intel Xeon Processor, 32 GB RAM, running Mojave 10.14.6.
Things are alright when I open with bins closed (holding option).
New project and new user seemed to work fine, but there's nothing in the project, so maybe it's not a good example.
After a lot of try and error, I re-installed Avid MC 2020.5, made a new user, importing only workspace and keyboard settings from my old user. Worked fine the first time, then crashed when I tried to re-open the project.
Everything worked fine last week, with the same setup.
Any idea on how to resolve this issue ?

Up load your video to Utube, then download it, link and then transcode the file. Works really beauty!! If the file is vertical from phone drop the avid picture in picture effect and adust. The frame flex and drive you crazy

Best way to relink to AMA originals in multiple bins
I've got a 4K project.
AMA linked to all files.
Transcoded to DNxHR SD.
Now that my edit is done, I need to relink. I've read in the forum that I can highlight the clips in an open bin, click on the timeline, then right-click on the highlighted clips and choose relink.
Two questions:
1) Do I highlight the transcoded clips or the sub clips (linked with audio) that are actually used in the timeline?
2) The transcoded files are in about 17 different bins. Is there a way to not do this bin by bin? Like just tell the timeline to go find all used media and relink?

Haven't seen these before 2019.12.1, and the ones in the center block the frame counter in trim mode.
