Dual Mono Not Stereo Incorrect TC
We have been forced to jump to 2018.12.1 to solve some issues but not are having issues with Turnovers.
All our Stereo Guide tracks export at Dual Mono and the TC is incorrect when imported into ProTools?
Also any quicktime we create with FastStart does actually contain fast start?
Anyone have a workaround for these issues?
Current Workaround... Bring all Guides into WaveAgent and Resave, all QT into QTPro and Resave...

Phonetic Indexer hanging
I've had a problem on 2018.10 where I can't eject a media drive (once avid has quit) because macOS says an application is still using it. It seems that the process that is still using the drive is Avid Phonetic Indexer and it's usually red in the Activity Monitor. I can quit the process there and the drive ejects. But something is causing the phonetic indexer to get stuck. Is it suppsed to stop running when I quit avid? Could there be something that got corrupted in the phonetic index on that drive that is causing the problem? Looking for troubleshooting advice. For the record I have only used this particular drive with 2018.10 and no previous versions so this isn't necessarily a 2018.10 issue. I was running 2018.5 before this.

dmg install bug?
Curious if anyone else has seen this behaviour but I am only able to install avid MC using terminal since updateing to 10.14.3.
I have gone back and forth between 2018.12.3 and 2018.12.5 [currently on .3] and in all cases the uninstaller worked fine from the applications folder but in order to install I had to do it from terminal as the dmg extracts, verifies, and then beachballs crashing the finder with no resolution other then to refresh the finder which then interupts the dmg so you are just in an endless loop of opening the dmg and beachballing.
I am currently running 2018.12.3 due to seeing strange behaviour in .5 like icons not swithching/appearing. such as seeing the overwrite arrow, just shows a blank. When working in effects tool the hand will appear for repositioning but thn stay on until restarting avid...silly things like this.
Anyone else have similar behaviour? Thanks.

AMPI Subsystem Error - Permission Denied (13)
Hi all,
Spent a day gradually upgrading from 7.0.4 and hit a wall at 8.4.0 (8.3.1 works fine). Get the above error on start MC, have tried permissions repair and restart, ilok extension manager is the latest version.
I'm on a Macbook Pro late 2013, OS 10.10.5.
Any suggestions, as ever, welcome.

MC 2018.12.5 Not Seeing New Fonts
Hi all,
We're having issues with 2018.12.5 seeing a new font that is installed. The Mac is running High Sierra 10.13.6. The font is question is "fonseca" and it shows up in all non Avid applications: Font Boot, TextEdit, MS Word, Adobe Suite, etc. However, it is not availabe in the Title Tool or Marquee.
We have had success installing it on a Mac with similar configuration but running MC 2018.12.3.
Has anyone else had any issues with fonts?

BM Ultra Studio Express + Avid
Hi,
Trying to configure BM Ultra Studio Express with Avid MC 2018.10. Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_10.11.4.
MacBook Pro MID 2014 OS MOJAVE 10.14.4.
In the Capture tool, there is no way to choose Blacakmagic Studio Express as a video soure, Only Audio source is chooseable:
The Device is working well with BM Media Express.
I have read the whole Inernet, finding for a AVID / BM compatibility matrix, but no luck.
Does any of you have a rock solid MAC based, working setup with ULTRA STUDIO EXPRESS + AVID? Please dont hesitate to share.

SubCap: one word in italic, the rest of the text line regular
Hi there!
Is it possible to make only one word of the whole text line (within one subcap clip) in italic, bold, different font size, or different font?
It's pretty easy in Title Tool but I cannot find how to do that in SubCap effect.

Timecode burn-in displays N.A. on video mixdown.
I've done this dozens of times: tc burn-in effect on top video track. Video mixdown. Use mixdown for client viewing or audio reference.
Out of the blue, when I do the mixdown the display shows "N.A." instead of the code, even though the code displays correctly in the timeline. Have rebooted, tried changing project format, fresh tc burn-in effect.
It seems to work fine if I render the whole effect before doing the mixdown, but it's a huge timewaster.
Has anyone had this happen? Suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Shortcut to rename / accept renamed clip or sequence in a bin
I know this is a simple question, but I'm unable to figure out if there is there a shortcut to rename a clip, and then how to accept that name without it then trying to rename another clip.
In other words, when I have a clip selected in a bin, is there a key I can press to be able to rename a clip (in other programs, this is often simply the return key), and then once I'm done renaming, is there a key I can press to simply accept that name? Right now when I'm renaming a clip and I press return, Avid continues on and is allowing you to rename the next clip – I'd rather it just accept and keep the clip I renamed highlighted.

Hoping this post will help me configure an iMac Pro to run without signifacant performance issues.
iMac Pro 2017 specs
macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 * Edit - Update: Downgraded tp 10.13.4 with no improvement
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon W
Memory: 64GB 2666 MHz DDR
Graphics: Radeon Pro vega 64 16368MB
Avid MC 2018.5 (Issues persist across 2018.4 and 8.9.4)
Nexis Client Manager 18.5.0.3
ISIS Storage: ISIS 5500
Issues:
Avid is extremely sluggish when opening and closing bins and generally accessing the project window.
Playback of DNxHD 36 media in both source and record monitor extremely sluggish and causes immediate errors. Screenshots of errors below -
I hope there are system settings or Avid settings that can be modified to have this rather expensive Apple machine run Avid because at the moment it is unuseable.

2019 iMac GPU - 580X or Vega 48?
Hi fellow commnunity, I'm looking at buying a new iMac - and wondering if the premium for the Vega 48 is worth it for Avid? "Worth" is relative I know, but it would be nice to know performance figures of the two in anyone have those at hand. Also, I seem to believe that Avid is not so nice about eGPU through TB3, is that something that I'm mistaken about and if not is that something that hopefully wil be improved upon with the new 2019 version of Avid?
Bonus - anyone have experience with the Mini's? I see them being qualified, but how are they in real life action? Also thinking of the option of a eGPU here.

Will not Make media databases
Hi All
We just installed a new drive partition for MXF files and are encountering the following glitch. We can copy fromon system to another as before, create folers for MXF etc as before but system will not create mediadatabases. We get the following warning. Crappy work around is to make a new folder inMXF folder and move all files to the new folder then it makes databases. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Using imac with MC 7.5 and Mac Pro with MC 8. Brand new problem never befor for 2 years.

Best EQ options for live performance edit
I am cutting a video of excerpts from live musical performances. There are 3 different performances, each with a L/R pair of mono audio tracks. I also have one additional mono track and one stereo track, so 7 mono and one stereo overall in the sequence. I need to EQ each performance separately. I don't want to EQ individual clips but whole tracks, often treating L/R pairs of tracks with the same EQ setting. I want something with much more control and finesse than the EQ Tool. am wondering if the best way forward here would be to use the Audio Track Effect Tool with Channel Strip or is there a better way? I've never used Channel Strip before and can't work out how to apply it to a pair of mono tracks at the same time and then treat both together. I work a lot in music and I'm very comfortable with audio plug-ins but not from within MC. I am trying to avoid having to mix this outside MC and then bring the audio back in. It's time I learnt more about how to work with audio effects within MC.
Any advice on the best way forward here?

For best results when capturing using Avid Media Composer or AJA Control Room, set Ref In to Video In with AJA KONA, AJA Io products and Avid Artist DNxIV, DNxIP. Here as a reminder, this recommendation began with v14.3.
Media Composer Specific Fixes: Listed below are the few fixes that directly impact Media Composer users.
- Solved problem whereby after frame-stepping in Avid Media Composer, the following attempt to playback resulted in frame skipping and/or repeated frames.
- In conjunction with Avid, and working with their new release of Media Composer (2019.6), addressed some audio metering deficiencies whereby depending on the order of window selection/activity in Avid Media Composer, audio metering for Capture and Audio Punch-In was not available, despite audio being present.
- Fixed benign crash-on-exit with Avid Media Composer. (<— this is a biggie)
Important note for macOS users:
With the introduction of macOS High Sierra (v10.13), Apple now requires that third party application developers be identified during kernel extension installations. Failure to do so will make AJA devices fail to operate (Unsupported AJA Device). Depending on your macOS version and AJA Desktop Software installation history, different installation outcomes are possible. clips wont play audio- but there's audio there
We're using a Mac computer with MC 5.5.2 on two computers. When we launch the project on one computer, a series of clips plays fine. But when we launch the same project on the other computer, there is no audio. All other clips play fine in the project.
We have checked the project and clip settings and there is nothing different about these series of clips or the way the MC5 is set up. We've gone into audio settings, audio project, and checked the sample and bit rates. We're moved the clips to a different drive to see if that would help-- nothing has helped.
These clips we imported from a QT file, but are part of many clips we imported, the others playback fine.
We have restarted AVID, the computer and reset the box and still no luck.
Any suggestions?

Good AAX real-time stereo pitch shift plugin recommendations?
Hello all,
In realtime track mode, the Pitch II plugin is kind of the worst for pitch-shifting music. I am looking for a Media Composer and CPU-friendly real-time AAX pitch-shift plugin for pitching music tracks up and down without audiosuiting them. Waves has a great one I use on my audio machine, but I don't want to bloat my editing install with the Waves shell running. The final pitch-shift will be done in PT - I just need something good enough for the approval that isn't cringe-worthy. Bonus if it is cheap and doesn't use iLok.

Avid.com is in Japanese
Hi all. Recently had my HD partitioned to have El Capitan on one side and Mountain Lion on the other. Avid MC 6.3 is on the Lion side. When I open Avid.com on the Lion side (Via Safari), the site comes up in Japanese (or other Asian character language). How do I get it changed back to English? BTW, Avid site is the only one that this happens on.

Will my old OMF MX & SFX media work on MC 2019?
I've got a sound library going back decades, and it can be tricky getting old media to work on shared systems, but I've always found a way. Does anyone know if this old format will be put to bed with the new Avid software?
