Relinking sound in the sequence not working

Hi there,

I had to move files and a bin out of a different project that was on a different drive to my drive and project. All worked out wen, but I cannot link the the files in the sequence to it.

What i did:

I transfered the original files which were wav. files to my bin, and the sound filters that where in the bin, as I need them as well. 

I went into my project, opened bin of the other project, dublicated the files in the bin, cut and pasted them into an new bin in my project. 

Then I linked the files in the bin to the original files that i had transfered onto my drive, the files on the timeline still stayed offline. 

What am I doing wrong? Please help. It's no use for me re-editing the files in my sequence as it is old archive sound material that has been rendered with sound filters in order to get a better quality. 

PLEASE HELP!

Insert Edit Export error

I have run into this a couple of times and must say it makes no sense at all.

I go to fix a single page of credits for example.  I mark in and out on the repaired sequnce, select Insert Edit Export, find and select the file to insert into, select Use Marks and Use Selected tracks, press OK and I get some version of the following error message:

"The sequence duration is longer (xxx frames) than the destination clip duration."

I know why this is occuring - when I made the original file export, it was from a longer sequence than I needed.  I used Use Marks on that export.  But now this choice has come back to haunt me.  If this is a limitation that can not be fixed, it needs to be CLEARLY explained in a workflow doc.  Seems like an oversight to me.

Tips to import older MC user into latest version of Composer (without corruption)?

I recently upgraded from MC 8.25 to Ultimate 2018.12.5 and imported my older user (lovingly crafted over years of MC use).  This created bizarre problems (default timeline audio track layout rendered as dual mono + an extra  mono track, 2 TC tracks, JKL trimming not working).  Support zeroed in on the old user as the problem, and sure enough, creating a new user cleared everything up.  But when I asked the obvious follow-up question -- is there a way to  programmatically get my settings into a new user? -- I was told that the only way to do it is MANUALLY (?!)  Is this true?

Any insight appreciated.

Please fix Frameflex

Since David Colantuoni has announced that Avid are holding off releasing the shiny new MC version, here’s something that needs to be fixed. Frameflex is good a dealing with horizontal images (video or graphics) but often fails with vertical images. I have vertical pictures from at least four digital still cameras that are always interpreted as horizontal. I suspect that it is a metadata issue as opening these images in pretty much any graphics program (even Apple Preview or Windows Paint) and simply resaving with no changes, creates files that are interpreted correctly. The position is the same with vertical mobile phone videos (I know, hold the thing the other way round but many folk don’t). There is no combination of rotation and size that will fix this in Frameflex. All I want is a vertical image, pillarboxed, that I could zoom into if needed. A 3D Warp can help but why do we need this? Semi-rant over. Images available for testing on request.

AUDIO SCRUBBING ALWAYS ON MC 2018.12.1

Hi,

I am unable to remove audio scrubbing on my Media Composer. No matter if cap lock is on, or not, even if I'm using a roller, it always plays the sound. I have done all the following steps as per other suggestions on the forum, but issue remains:

- Checked Cap Lock is off

- Fast Scrub is off

- Settings > General > Enable Caps Lock Protection is off

I'm unsure how to proced. I don't use audio scrubbing and it's hard to work with it. Anyone? Thanks!

Copy/paste frame flex settings between clips in the timeline?

I'm using frame flex to punch in on a 4K interview to create a virtual CU. I can't seem to drag my closeup settings to a bin and apply them to other clips in the timeline. Am I missing something? Is there a way to copy/paste frame flex settings between clips?

2018.12.3 Trim Mode Not Precise

I'm experiencing imprecise responses during trim mode, I get visible timeline lag and delayed responses from when I hit JKL or IO keys. I'm used to buttery smooth precision when trimming.

I'm working with DNx115 media at full quality from NEXIS shared storage, dual ethernet connection. I've tried changing to draft quality, removing the mask margins from video output, I've checked the composer and trim settings. There are no effects on the clips. Clicking and dragging is also stuttering.

Is this a known bug or are there settings I should change/be aware of?

Best Video Morphing effect/plugin?

I've used Media Composer FluidMorph to give me a seamless transition for a haracter's relatively simple cspeaking action in a shot, but there is slightly too much difference between the facial expressions of the two clips I'm FluidMorphing together, so the final shot looks reallygood except around the mouth and eyebrows.

I realize I'll need to use and effect that allows me detailed spline type warping for accurately/seamlessly morphing the mouth and eyebrows for the character, so I was wondering what would be the "best" option from the ones listed below?

Option 1: BCC Video Morph in After Effects

Option 2: Re:Vision Effects Re:Flex in After Effects

Option 3: Nuke SplineWarp in Nuke

 I already own BCC, but was wondering if Re:Flex or Nuke Spline have certain features that BCC Video Morph does not have for acheiving the same desired result in a faster/simpler workflow.

Error during playback: Exception: AMD5Stream

New error we haven't seen before popped up today, wondering if anyone has any insight?

During playback of sequence, this pops up randomly

Exception: AMD5Stream::CoreWrite() - MD5 context is NULL

Peculiar since I'm not sure how an MD5 is involved in any scenario

This is on MC 2018.9, Mac OSX 10.13, working off of local storage over thunderbolt 2

SOLVED: Weird mouse problem!

THE PROBLEM: I opened AVID MC and my left mouse button(s) keep getting stuck.

HOWEVER, the weirdest thing is that it is ONLY getting stuck in AVID.

ALSO, I have a logitech MX revolution and an Apple Trackpad and BOTH of these get stuck on AVID ONLY.

 

I am going to uninstall and reinstall AVID, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

ALSO, I've tried everything, restartin AVID, restarting the Mac, opening another project... nothing worked...

UPDATE: The application rightzoom.app was conflicting with Media Composer. 
I excluded mediacomposer from this app, and everything is running at 100%. Phew! 

Right Zoom is a micro app that lets you full screen any window when you press the green button on top.
It was featured on lifehacker and I had forgotten I had downloded it... Doh!

2018.12.3 Renders (video vs audio)

I have two render drive on NEXIS shared storage, "Render" and "Render_SND".

My media creation settings are set to send video renders to "Render" and audio renders to "Render_SND" however I've noticed that when I select an in-out region in the timeline of only audio tracks and hit render (anywhere- from the menu bar to the button in the timeline window, at position, in to out etc) the default is not the audio render drvie set in media creation.

Is this a bug? Can anyone else confirm this? How can I make sure that video and audio are being written to the correct destinations?

Avid 12.3 Start up Freeze

Hello, my Avid start up is freezing on "Initializing plugin: Looks_x64.avx

I have an edit due this weekend, need help if possible.  Case was made through support, but I didn't hear anything back today.

 

My computer specs...

MacBook Pro (15in 2018)

Processor 2.9Ghz i9

Memory 32GB 2400 Mhz DDR4

Graphics  Radeon Pro Vega 20 4080 MB

              Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Avid Background Services on 2018.8

While it's relatively slow this month, I'm trying to refresh the OS and software on my 3 Mac Avid network, connected to Nexis Pro storage. All Macs (trash can, iMac and laptop) are on approved Mac hardware list.

After a fresh install of MacOS 10.13.6 and Media Composer 2018.8, Avid Background Services is not running consistently between different user profiles. I create Administrator (with admin rights) and Editor (standard, no admin rights) profiles on all machines, and make my freelancers use the Editor account. I am able to successfully start Avid Background Services on the Administrator account (green icon), it will not start on the Editor acocunt (red icon). I've installed this configuration on 2 of my 3 machines now (laptop and iMac) and this issue presents itself on both machines. 

I've tried creating a new editor profile with admin rights, and this newly created profile still does not start Background Services. Only logging into the original Administrator profile allows for successful background transcodes, renders, etc.

I'm upgrading from v8.5, where Background Services was also unreliable. I was hoping Background Services would be more stable with this release. When it works, I find it very useful for our workflows, especially transcoding media to our Nexis in the background, allowing us to organize our bins and even work on other projects while it transcodes media in the background. I don't see that many posts about it in the forums, does it generally work well for everyone else? Anyone have any tricks up their sleeves to get Background Services turn green when it goes red? Or does no one bother because it doesn't work for them? Asking for a friend... :)

Background services not working

I’m not able to use background services 

the dialogue in my browser explains “local host not found”. 

The console in the mediacomposer has the same error “local host not found” and my app manager can’t phone home, (if I use the hotspot on my mobile it can phone home).

I’ve done a separate install of the OS (10.13.3) on a different partition of the system, drive and a fresh install of mediacomposer, and background services work fine.

So back on the main partition of the system drive, I have tried the following;

Complete uninstall and reinstall of mediacomposer 

Completely reinstalled the OS 

Still have the same probulem with background services!

I think I have inherited a problem from migrating from my previous Mac.

So what is my next step?

Your thoughts much appreciated.

MacBook Pro for Media Composer

Hi all

Am just about to invest in a new MacBook Pro. It's not a primary work machine, more of a persoal laptop, but I'd like it have the capablilty for occasional /emergency MC editing with dnx36hd-type mediafiles.

Looking at the models just released, could I get away with a dual core 13"?

Symphony Three-tone Preview not showing?

It's absolutely possible that I am doing something wrong, but I can't get the Three-tone preview to show up in my Symphony.

MC 2018.11, Mac Pro OS 10.13.6; The weird thing is that I'd swear I saw it last week, thought, that's weird, what's that for, went and read about it, came back to investigate , and now can't make it show up. In fact I see no difference when selecting Input, Three-tone or Output on preview, I always see output.

 

As I say, I am fully prepared to find out it's a simple button I didn't push or whatever, but sheesh, it's makin me crazy.

MC 2018.12.5 still crashing on exit

I know there's another thread dating back to MC 2018.5 dealing with this but I've had crashing on exit from MC with AJA hardware attached since 2018.12 first arrived and it's still there on 2018.12.5.

I know this may be something that AJA has to fix, possibly in conjuction with Avid but we really need a working version of 2018.12 before the new interface version arrives. The suggestion is that the new version won't support my late 2013 iMacs and call me picky but I really like our students using the same version across our facility. So please someone tell me there is a glint of light at the end of this tunnel.

Mac Pro 2019 and Avid Media Composer

Very excited to see Avid featured so prominently in the Keynote yesterday.

How exactly will the Avid hardware work? Are there new boards going to be released or are existing ones compatible? If new, is a card all that is required? Does it have basic I/O (e.g. HDMI)? Or do we still need some kind of box? Will the box or the card offer acceleration options for Avid processes? To what advantage? If new cards, will they be available in the fall? If existing cards are compatible, will they be Mac Pro ready when the Mac Pro is released? Will the MC work with Afterburner? Will Afterburner utilize MC codecs or is it strictly ProRes? Thank you...and apologies if this isn't the correct forum. Happy to repost elsewhere if directed.

Non Latin (Hebrew) title tool Issue

Hello,

We have a problem with the title tool on MAC.

When trying to write Hebrew text in the TT window the font selection changes to another font and the text is written in English. The MAC input language remains on Hebrew.

When trying to paste Hebrew text from the text editor the pasted text changes to question marks.

With the Marque we are able to paste Hebrew text but not write directly however this tool creates many other problems.

Our setup is MC 5.0.3.7 / 5.0.3 on MAC Pro OSX 10.6.5

 

Anyone experienced this problem with other non Latin languages?
