A function I perform often in FCP is to optn drag a clip in the timeline to anywhere I want. Can I do this in Avid?

EDL question
I've tried to find if my question was previously answered but I had no luck finding it.
I have a project with dozens of hundreds of files, and some of them got cheekily ingested by the editor without appropriate naming. Not comes the moment of EDLs and licensing of the material...
Most of the clips "uncorrectly named" were already renamed inside avid, althought whenever I try to export an EDL, it refers to the original name (Source file)
Is there a way to produce an EDL which reflects to the "Name" of the clip instead of the "source file"?
On the List tool, when I tick clip names, the clip names come underneath each event on the EDL, but the name of the file of each numbered event still referring to the name at ingesting.
Any help appreciated.

Nitris DX HW Calibration - does it affect capture from tape?
Hello!
If I'm capturing video/audio from tape source connected via a Nitris DX box, does the HW Calibration setting (under Audio Project/Hardware) influence the incoming audio signal levels from SDI, analog XLR, AES/EBU or RCA inputs? Or do the incoming levels remain the same regardless of the Calibration setting?

Output 5.1 via 3 x AES pairs?
I have a 1080p 24fps, 5.1 sequence with 5.1 DME's. I'm going to play this back in a theatre that can only accept the audio on 3 AES pairs:
L / R
C / Lfe
Ls / Rs
I have either an Avid DNxIO or an AJA IO 4K.
Can anyone explain which hardware is suitable (not sure DNxIO can do this?) and how I should have the audio ouput settings.

I'm getting this so often, it's making me crazy: VDM3BobVideoOut::PreSync(): Error in BOB device StartIO()
I'm on a trash can running 10.12.6 and MC 8.9.4 and an AJA IO XT driver v 14.0.2, Interface 9
found lots about it from v6 but the only solution was unchcking fast scrub, which I did.
What can I do? Is there a better AJA driver? MC version? Something?
Multigrouping Avid 2018 without Pluraleyes
Hey all,
Forgive me if I'm missng something obvious here: we're running Avid 2018.5 and I'm attempting to multigroup some archive concert footage [1080p/23.976 DNxHD] and we've recently upgraded to High sierra.
The way I learned to multigroup is the sync map > AAF > pluraleyes and back situation. However, Pluraleyes 3.5 keeps crashing every time I try to use it and I fear we have upgraded beyond our ability to use it. I was hoping that with the new "analyze by waveform" addition (this office just upgraded from MC6.5) that there would be a way to skip the pluraleyes and copying auxiliary timecodes step and just multigroup by waveform. This method works in chunks for the most part, but I can't seem to get it to analyze over an hour of footage that way. Maybe because there is no consistent external audio track.
Things I've attempted:
-using premiere to create a faux "external" audio clip by patching the audio and synchronizing in the premiere timeline, then multigrouping everything with it in Avid. Nada.
- downloading resolve thinking there might be a way to sync the cips in there and my brain melting.
- looking at entangle and knowing this office won't pay $20/month for it (but I could beg if someone can confirm this is a good solution).
So if you've got any ideas:
I'm looking at 5 cameras, no cam timecode, no external audio (although each clip has audio), no slate, and every camera cuts multiple times. Every once in a while I get a glimpse of a timecode clock on set, but not on every camera nor for every cut and even if I did, i'm not sure exactly what to do with them. This is footage from 1999 and i'm a newb. Any help would be much appreciated!
Avid AAF to Premiere Pro back to Avid via AAF damages Avid project
I just encountered a situation where taking out an Avid AAF to Premiere Pro, working in Premiere Pro, and then back to Avid via AAF damages the Avid project.
The details. Avid MC 2018.4, Premiere pro 2018. Both on the same Apple MacPro.
Avid MC project with all DNxHD36 media. 1080p24
In project, subclips from master clips and synced with audio, and made into Auto-Sync clips
Auto-Sync clips laid in an assembly sequence.
Standard feature film workflow in the Avid.
This Avid assembly seq exported as AAF as linked audio and video.
Avid AAF imported into Premiere Pro, and relinked to Avid MXF files.
Edit done in Premiere Pro. No clip effects added.
Premiere Pro timeline exported as AAF. No boxes checked.
This AAF imported into Avid.
Not one clip (from Premiere Pro AAF) relinks to media.
Avid hangs and crashes whenever that sequence opened.
And here's the clincher.
All master clips of which subclips were in the sequence exported as AAF in the first place, in original Avid bins, now get renamed with the name of the sub clip, so they lose original clip names. Then also get a different codec assigned to them, and become unplayable, and cannot be relinked to the original media file.
Even the original Avid assembly sequence becomes unplayable.
So, basically, as far as I can tell, IMPORTING A PREMIERE PRO AAF INTO AN AVID MC BIN (8.9.3 OR 2018.4) DAMAGES THE AVID PROJECT!!
AMA and Relink to Avid Media
I am about to start assembling a show with a mixture of field and studio segments. All of the field segments are in Greek and we have a Greek editor lined up to assemble them.
In the past we have sent a drive with proxy media and he has worked from that. We have had issues with customs releasing the drive, which is why I am looking at other alternatives.
We have a backup of all the camera masters in Greece and I have made Avid Media here in the states. My first question is if we send him our Avid Project, can our Greek editor relink our master clips to the camera masters via AMA? And second, is it possible for us to relink the sequences he cuts back to our Avid Media?
True P output from Nitris DX
I have been frustrated for quite some time now because when editing 4K media within a 1080P project I get so much aliasing and moire on fine detailed shots with horizontal lines. Also happens with drone media shot 1080P. Yet, the final release on broadcast tv has looked quite acceptable. Last week after some research online I discovered the True P setting in the video output tool. I had been in the PSF output mode. After switching to True P my JVC monitor indicates its in 1080 30p rather than 1080 60i and the video is beautiful! No aliasing or moire!! Is there any reason I should not use the True P setting in video output. I never use the output of the Nitris DX for mastering. My releases are all file based.

Media Composer 2018.5 on Mac render problem
Hi
Suddenly MC will not render whole edit (4 mins) there was 28 effects to render, and it just dies during process.
I tried rendering small sections and that worked for a bit but not for all of the timeline.
I tried changing the render drive with no luck. I also tried exporting the edit to see what would happen and I got
error 2034, online search brought up long file name but my filename ws just edit.mov.
I also tried mixing down the tracks but got another error report:
Exception: NEMfilewriter::Executeinternal TIMEOUT - NEMfilewriter has detected upstream pipe stall....
The media created to this poit may be unusable and/or incomplete.
I don't know how to interperate this report.
Any sugestions will be really apprieciated.
Compensating delay of one track in an autosync group
Hi,
I have some video footages with a LTC audio track, which are autosynced with multiwaves files from audio recorders.
One track of each multiwave file is a LAV track with a 19 ms constant delay (from a sennheiser AVX transmitter).
Is there an efficient way to correct this delay inside AVID? Not a big deal, but if it can be done easily and reliably...

Sorenson Squeeze Lite incorrect serial number
Hi
I just tried to transcode in Squeeze Lite. When I went to launch it I got this error message. "The serial number Squeeze found may be for a different product. Please reinstall using the correct install and serial number".
I uninstalled Squeeze and tried to reinstall from App Manager, but after installation completes (it's in my Applications folder) the App manager plug-ins tab still says "Install" and Squeeze is not showing in the Licensing tab.
I have an annual subscription and Squeeze shows up in my list of available downloads.
Can anybody help?
Consolidate or transcode XAVC Intra?
Hello!
Preparing a documentary project with hours of material shot mostly on Sony FS7 - XAVC Intra 1920x1080 112 Mbps.
What do you experts suggest?
Should I consolidate and edit with the native codec?
Or transcode to DNxHD 36 (or DNxHR LB) and after picture lock relink to the camera files?
Any advantage to transcode besides saving drive space?
Will editing in the native XAVC codec in any way compromise the stability of the project?

Shared bins and projects going forward
A quick reading of the Media Composer product comparison seems to show that regular Media Composer will NOT have the ability to share bins and projects as of 2018.4. Is this correct?
Also, does any of this impact the use of non Avid storage (Facilis Terrablock for instance) in a shared storage environment?

AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp
I keep crashing on a fresh install of MC 8.6.1 with a new user setting. User Diagnostic Reports in the Apple Console keep pointing me to "AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp" as the source of the crash. A Google of this word offers only six discrete hits, five of which are on a site called www.advanceduninstaller.com. But I don't see that word there either. The sixth hit is in German, which I don't speak.
Does anyone know what this is and why it keeps shutting me down?

AMA Link to MiniDV QTs?
Upgraded to 2018.5 and all is good...until I tried to AMA link to some older Quicktime files shot on a MiniDV camera that were orginally digitzed via Firewire into FCP6.
I fully believe these files successfully AMA linked in earlier versions of MC but somewhere along the way something has apparently changed.
I searched the AVID codec plug-in/download page but nothing there solved this problem.
What I am doing wrong?

Insert Edit with Trim-style ripple?
I'm a fan of advanced trimming. I love how I can keep my music / sfx / dialogue all synced up and still ripple my clips downward.
Is there any way to insert an edit from the source monitor, but control what clips get pushed? The same way if I were to trim out a clip, I can select what happens with my sfx/music/VO?
