Best XDCAM XAVC WORKFLOW

Hi All,

I have installed NABLET AMA PlugIn XAVC, does anyone know which is the fast workflow to create a H264 content from XDCAM footage?

Any idea will be appreciated

Audio--mute or solo groups?

I'm looking into the group functions in 8.10 and am wondering if there's a way to mute or solo a group instead of having to do this individually on a track by track basis.

Media Composer sluggish after upgrade to 8.6.5

I recently upgrade from 8.5.3 to 8.6.5 (standard upgrade, NOT a clean install) and I've noticed that AVID is noticeably less responsive. Nothing has changed except the Avid install: same hardware, same media, same project files.

For example, zooming in and out on the timeline is much less responsive. Often when I press the option key to toggle my mouse into "lasso" mode, there is a noticeable delay before the mouse switches to the pointer icon. Same for shift selecting clips; there is a noticeable pause before the dispaly refreshes to reflect new selections. Often these problems are not that apparent at the start of a shift, but they get worse as the day goes on. Maybe a cache issue?

Smaller, shorter timelines generally seem less effected. But my nearly finished shows, which are 22 min w/ 10 tracks of video (not always full)  and 20+ tracks of audio, are painfully slow to work with.

Perhaps 8.6.5 and OS X Yosemite are not a good combination?

MC 2018.2 AAF Closed Caption file Import fails. scc Import fails

I started with a clean install of OS X 10.12.0, then upgraded it to 10.12.6, then installed MC 2018.2. The Data Track only AAF Import would not work. "Some of the embedded media failed to import". From the console: Error importing media for '10ThingScreener_24.mxf'. Error: 'SYS_ERROR'. This is the third time in my memory that this import has been broken after a MC update. The last time it was broken in 8.8.2 (.3 & .4) and fixed in 8.8.5.

I also found that scc file import would not work at all for me. Console: AncData Import: Error. Unable to decode "INCRHULK2008_EDIT-FFM_CC_23_ENG(rev2).scc"Exception:

First I did an uninstall / reinstall of 2018.2 but had the same problems. Then I uninstalled 2018.2 and installed 2018.1. The same files imported with no problems.

Has anyone else tried these Closed Caption imports?

BCC Lite not showing up in the effects palette

I Installed BCC Lite, and it's not showing up in the effects pallet. It was correctly installed in the AVX2_Plug-ins folder. I'm on MC 8.6.5.

Can't capture HDV tapes

I have a lot of HDV tapes from 2009 which I need to recapture since the hard drive they were on went down.  However, no matter what resooution I specify, the capture tool refuses to recognize them.  I am running MC 7.04 on a recent iMac.  The tapes are HDV, shot on a Sony HVR Z1U. What must I do to be able to recapture them?

Can anybody reproduce this crash?

follow these steps:

- Run the app, open project.

- open Mcam sequence

- enter Mcam split mode

- select a camera with the mouse

- press space to play

- press CMD-I -> crash 100%

Transcode issue - NEMFileWriter has detected upstream pipe stall

Hi Everyone, first time posting.

I'm in the middle of ingesting & transcoding a bunch of Rushes for a show and keep on getting stopped by this error: (Exception: NEMFileWriter::ExecuteInternal TIMEOUT -  NEMFileWriter has detected upstream pipe stall...) and occasonisly this error in the source montior aswel (AMA Producer Task::Execute AMA Plug-in Unable to Provide Sample)

Rushes in question are .MOV and H264 codec. Default AMA link was AvidGeneric and changed this to Quicktime and still no luck. Some suggestions on the forum was to try background transcode as something to do with the ISIS server not liking the amount of data it was receiving. Working on certain clips and not on others, have tried to subclip long clips and do trial and error but even with this I'm getting the Ama Producer Task error.

Any advice/tips greatily appreciated.

Transcoding A7S Footage in Background Not Working

Working fine when I transcode a batch of files outside of the background queue but when I queue it I am getting an error 'Exception: Failed to setup a sample provider!'

The files are MP4 3840x2160 AVC Long-GOP High 23.976FPS being transcoded to 2048x1080 DNxHR LB

grouping multiple single cam video clips with one long audio file

I am an AE working on a feature doc. I have some footage from a single cam shoot that has mutliple (25) video clips and one long audio clip (it was shot it a courtroom, the camera was starting and stopping through the day while the external mic was clipped to the judge's bench and recording continuously). There is no matching timecode between audio and video. There is also no time of day timecode for the video.

I've managed to create a sync map sequence to sync the various clips to the long audio track. The editor is now asking if we can create one group that contains all the videos and audio. I can do this but then all the video clips appear in different multicam windows, which is too messy - what the editor wants if a grouped clip where all the videos appear in a single window separated by black for the sections where there is audio but no video. I hope that makes sense...

Is this possible? I'm a recent convert to AVID from Premiere and FCP so if I'm missing somethign obvious please let me know. Thanks!

'Mark Markers' function for Spanned Markers

Is there a way to use the 'Mark Markers' function to mark a Spanned Marker?
The Editing Guide makes no specific reference (positively or negatively) to Spanned Markers.

I'm on 8.6.5 specifically, but would love to know generally.

I have a dongle less system here that cant open Avid MC.

I am getting the Service Temporarily Unavailable error.

Pressing OK till the cows come home and still going.

I have to crash Avid to get in.

What's my next move?

 

Error: Cannot consolidate master clip with offline media

Hi Avid Community,

I am encountering an error that I have never experienced before when transcoding. After linking XD footage from a Sony FS7 I can transcode all but one video file. The footage was shot on two cards and are contained one folder to accomodate the link and any spanned footage. 

 

 
The error I am receiving is:Cannot consolidate master clip with offline media

This is the troublesome video file with corresponding start / end timecode. 

 

The strange thing is that the metadata on the troublesome clip shows a timecode start of 00:45:26:00, but when viewed in the source browser the footage shows OFFLINE until you scrub to 00:54:09:12 (which is indicated by a marker that shows as _ClipTransit-02). At that point the image and the audio begin. There aren't any missing clips that I can tell, it's just that half of the linked clip is blank. 

 

 

 

I double checked this file in Sony Catalyst Browse, which actually starts teh clip where Media Composer puts the ClipTransit marker at TC 00:54:09:12

I'm not sure what's going on and if there's a fix, but I would appreciate it if someone could help.

Rendering problem

When I render an effect on the media composer timeline the AVID stops and this is reported:

Exception CACPLGUinputConvert::ExecuteRequest() - Host to GPU transfer failed!, hr:0x80000002

I have a late 2013 Imac with 32Gb Ram.  Do anyone know if I have to upgrade drivers to my GPU?

Audio Mixer Faders missing?

Anyone have an idea why my Audio Mixer window might stop displaying anything below the second FX pod? I checked my display options and they seem to be in order. This is on 7.0.4 on a mac running 10.9.5. I did start this edit on 8.5 but I didn't have any Audio Mixer panels hidden (which is a new feature that I like in 8.5)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

AMA Relink to new array

My project was AMA linked to 6 different 2TB drives where the orig camera footage was.

I transcoded the ftg and have been working off the transcodes on a 12tb array.

Now I am ready to AMA relink back to camera footage.

Instead of relink to all 6 2TB drives....I loaded all 6 onto a single 16TB array.

All file structures identical. Each drive name now as a top folder.

So if original 2TB external was labeled "Seagate LT1A" I have "Seagate LT1A" as a folder on the 16TB array, with all the same stuff underneath in file structure.

The new array is called OWC16TB

I can't relink to any of it...what do I need to do to have the Relink "see" those 6 "drives" (now folders) on the new OWC16TB array?

4K Proxy Workflow - Da Vinci Round Trip - Problems

I was wondering if anyone could help as I am kind of at my wit's end trying to get this to work. I'll give you a brief introduction to set the scene. I am working as an AE for a feature length documentary we finished shooting the bulk of around two weeks ago. We are working in Avid as we thought it was tried and tested for features so would perform better for us than Premiere, but at the moment I'm just not sure that's the case.

I've been trying to configure a 4K proxy workflow for almost a week now but every way I turn I hit another stumbling block and am just getting very frustrated with the entire thing. This should have taken me a day, not a week with still no progress. 

The main two problems are that background transcoding is completely useless, and that relinking video hasn't worked once for me. I am using footage from two of the 21 different cameras we will be using ; A7S and Pabasonic EVA1. They are both AVC Long-GOP. I haven't got the rest of the footage through yet so wanted to test with what I had. I'm working in a 4K project with the proxy timeline settings set to 1/4. I am AMA linking the files and then transcoding them inside Avid (without background render as that seems to be a feature which simply doesn't work) to DNxHD LB at 1080. I then make a test sequence inside Avid and try to relink the sequence. No luck. Not once has the video relinked. What am I doing wrong? I have tried Scott Freeman's metadata tricks, all the combinations of options in relinking the media and it has never worked. What do I have to do to make this work?

So after a few days of tests and fails of this I decided to embrace another workflow of Da Vinci Round tripping which I found here; http://droppedframe.com/2017/10/09/resolve-to-avid-a-dailies-workflow/. I figured I'd be able to batch transcode to DNx in here which would save time and I would be able to relink to files when importing the AAF back into Da Vinci easily. Also hasn't worked once. Not inside Avid nor Da Vinci import.

Please can anybody help. What am I doing wrong ? Surely it must be easier than this. I'd very much love to use Avid and get to grips with if over this project as I'd like to persue a career in TV and Film but I am very close to just calling it a day and going back to Premiere as none of this is a problem there.

Having modified Subclips relink/replace old subclips in timeline

Hello all!

 

I am organizing a project and creating dailies sequences for each day of shooting. I'm syncing video and audio, making those into subclips and laying those out on the timeline. 

I orginally made my synced clips with all 7 tracks of audio (lavs, boom, mix) but my editor only wants the L+R mix tracks on the timeline, with the option to match back to the 7 tracks whenever he might need to. 

2 questions: 

1) How should I make the subclips to ensure that they will only have L+R mix tracks (A1 + A2) but still match back to full A7 audio tracks?

2) Once I make these new subclips for each clip, is there a way to link the modified subclips to the old subclips in my dailies assembly? It would be rough to go through every clip and bring it back into the timeline.
