MC 2018.2 AAF Closed Caption file Import fails. scc Import fails

I started with a clean install of OS X 10.12.0, then upgraded it to 10.12.6, then installed MC 2018.2. The Data Track only AAF Import would not work. "Some of the embedded media failed to import". From the console: Error importing media for '10ThingScreener_24.mxf'. Error: 'SYS_ERROR'. This is the third time in my memory that this import has been broken after a MC update. The last time it was broken in 8.8.2 (.3 & .4) and fixed in 8.8.5.

I also found that scc file import would not work at all for me. Console: AncData Import: Error. Unable to decode "INCRHULK2008_EDIT-FFM_CC_23_ENG(rev2).scc"Exception:

First I did an uninstall / reinstall of 2018.2 but had the same problems. Then I uninstalled 2018.2 and installed 2018.1. The same files imported with no problems.

Has anyone else tried these Closed Caption imports?

Mp4 link/importing issues go pro ish footage

Hi all Im trying to link/import some underwater mp4 files of some really cool sharks in Belize I shot on a go pro knock off they play fine as a mp4 but when it tried to link 3 linked up but none of the others will no link no import . So I tried to convert them with Movavi converter to MXF and .MOV same issues will not link or import  they are long gop files is there a workflow I need to do diff.???

Well The New Mac Pro was just delivered by Fed Ex any thoughts on set up  before I tear down the studio this afternoon the old mbp will stay on the network as a converter and shareing files

New problem with Script Sync 2.0

I've been using Script Sync 2.0 on a big reality TV show for 4 months now with no issues. I've managed to successfully sync over 20 transcriptions, some over 2.5 hours long. But now all of a sudden when I try to sync my latest two transcriptions it will freeze during the syncing process at the very last second. I'm not able to abort, and I have to force quit avid. I've tried starting a new project, changing the sync settings nothing has worked so far.

Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix? Is there a cache that I need to clear out and is the indexing data stored somewhere? Maybe that folder is full, but I'm not sure where it would be located. 

I'm using MC 8.8.5 on a mac mini (OSX 10.10.5) (we only use this machine for script sync and then use our other macs for editing.)

Any help would be great, thank you.

Shortcut to rename / accept renamed clip or sequence in a bin

I know this is a simple question, but I'm unable to figure out if there is there a shortcut to rename a clip, and then how to accept that name without it then trying to rename another clip.

In other words, when I have a clip selected in a bin, is there a key I can press to be able to rename a clip (in other programs, this is often simply the return key), and then once I'm done renaming, is there a key I can press to simply accept that name? Right now when I'm renaming a clip and I press return, Avid continues on and is allowing you to rename the next clip – I'd rather it just accept and keep the clip I renamed highlighted.

Multicam jumping cursor

Hi there - I'm using Avid 8.10.0

I'm currently working with groupclips and for the first couple of days everything went fine, but at some point my cursor started to jump around whenever I'd leave the multicam-view.

Meaning: I press the 9-split-view-button, choose a new camera, press the button again to leave 9-split-view and when leaving my cursor would jump in the timeline, for example to some point in the beginning of the sequence.

When I restart the program, the problem might disappear for a couple of edits and then come back.

Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

Command Snap-To-Edit Not working

Hello everybody,

So this is a new one for me: I did a clean install of Sierra yesterday and then installed Media Composer 8.8.4. Everything seems to be working fine, except that I can no longer hold down the Command key to force the playhead to snap to an edit. Command-Option no longer works either. Been doing this for close to 20 years, and it's driving me crazy. Can anybody point me to a setting that may have been changed, or something?

It's NOT the "position bar snap" or the "segment drag snap" settings, btw. I never use those, and checked that they're not selected.

MC 2018.2 No Timecode with BWAV Audio AMA

So on Media composer 2018.2 if you AMA to BWAV's it seems all time code starts at 00 hours.

This was on a 25P project not sure about other framerates, If you use this wotk flow upgrading should be avoided

Renaming tracks in MC 8.8 slows interface reaction way down

does anybody else also experience that?

I have a timeline with 20 audio tracks - when I start renaming even only a few of the audio tracks, the timeline starts to react very slow to mouse commands, for example activating or the redirection of tracks becomes almost impossible. Maneuvering in the timeline is also very slow and sluggish...

Once I remove the last custom name the performance is back to normal.

Any idea anyone?

Why does MC re-render my timeline when I output a QT reference?

This is a question that has been bothering me for some time since the Media Composer update to 8.0. 

When delivering a cut for a client, we usually output a Quicktime reference file and then dump that file into MPEG Streamclip... thereby allowing the editor to continue working while the cut renders in the background. However, I've noticed since the MC 8.0 update that after rendering down all video and audio effects, and a burned-in timecode, when outputting the Quicktime reference file, MC still renders everything for another 20+ minutes. If my memory serves, prior to 8.0, everything remained rendered as long as we selected all tracks and rendered everything in to out. Now... it seems we have to render everything twice in order to produce the Quicktime reference file.

Does anyone know why this is? Or why this may be happening?

All our footage is HD transcoded from original RED RAW files, that were AMA linked, and range from 4K-8K. For some reason, I suspect that frame flex may have something to do with this? Although I am outputting a Quicktime reference file from a transcoded HD timeline, I still see that frame flex (even when not used or selected on the initial transcode) is still present. Perhaps this feature is causing the re-render time?

MSP_MXF AVX plugin causing me grief

After hours of trial and error I have determined that the MSP_MXF.avx AMA plug in is causing my main Raid media drive to gray out in the media creation settings as well as not showing up for relinking. Is this plugin still needed an d if so, any ideas on how to rememdy.

 

Runnin High Sierra MC/Symp 2018.2 on 12 core trash can with 64 gigs memory.

Has anyone been able to make a Mojo DX work using a Sonnet DX connected via thunderbolt 3 using a thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter and a Imac Pro with High Sierra and MC 2018.2 or for that matter any version of MC. Thanks

Colour (label) issue

Hi. We work in an unity environment. Three macs running most of the media and the project from a Nexis.

When we started the project, we used the colour column to label translated clips in green, in progress yellow and so forth... 

Now we are trying to use colours for another purpose (most of the times the same clips but with different colours) but a big part of the clips keep reverting to the previous colours or losing the new colour label next time we open the bin a few days later.

In our workflow the colours now would help the director to spot for screeners and soucers, etc 

Is there any database where the colours are stored? Locally on each computer or inside the project folder on the Nexis? Is it re-settable?

I would be very happy if anyone can give a suggestion about this problem. How can I change the colour column and the new colours stick to the clips?

Nablet XDCAM Plugin v4.5.3 bug?

I teach video editing at a university. In order to demonstrate linking to many different camera formats, I have a drive with a folder full of 15 or so sub-folders, each being a camera card copy. Sony, Panasonic, Red, Canon, Arri, etc etc. The folder is called ‘Demo Card Media’. Until I installed the 4.5.3 Nablet plugin, I could navigate to a subfolder with Avid’s Source Browser and link to the contents with the Source Browser set to view the folder as a media volume. This morning, this failed … as soon as I selected the master folder, instead of seeing the sub-folders, Avid immediately linked to a Sony XDCAM card copy and the Browser populated with XDCAM clips. This kept happening. The other sub-folders were not visible. I did the usual Avid stuff - delete MCState, new User, new Project but no good. I then deleted the 4.5.3 plugin and reinstalled 4.5.2. All is back to normal. MC 8.10. Mac OS 10.11.6. I have emailed Nablet about this. anyone else?

My timecode increments by 4 frames???!!

Hi All

My project is 24fps 1080p, Apple Pro Res. 48hz, PCM.

I am using stems from a previous cut from FCPX, which have now been recut in avid. I have 4 stems, dialogue, temp adr, sfx and music. I am trying to get this over to the audio house but when I have been generating my test today the dialogue stem (and ofcourse the most vital) has a source timecode that is incrementing by 4 frames as I step through. It does not sound stuttery, it sounds like it always has but the tc is completely mad! I'm pretty sure this was not the case last week.The only thing I think that might have changed is I unlinked it and then relinked it, I thought successfully.. maybe not!

The other issue is I no longer have the source file stem, only the mxf file. When I look in media tool the master file comes in with the same increment issue.The other stems are behaving as normal with timecode increments of 1.

I cannot find anything on this when I google!! HELPPP!! PLEEEEAAASE!!!

Color Correction Error

I have the latest version of Media Composer.  I have a timeline with 3 cameras on 3 different layers of video.  Some of the clips, it's allowing me to just open the color correction tool and color correct like normal (you then get a dotted green line on the bottom of the clip after you sart color correcting).  Other clips won't color correct like that.  Instead, a color correction effect is added (little effect box is placed in the middle of the clip).  Sometimes it won't let me color correct at all (says color correction can't be added to filler -- even though I am trying to correct a clip and not filler).  

I rebooted the system and when I opened the sequence I get this error:  THIS SELECTION WILL BE DUPLICATED AND THE FOLLOWING WILL BE UPDATED - COLOR CORRECTION EFFECTS.

When it's confused and thinks I am trying to color correct filler, I can fix the issue by either going to the first frame of video or the last frame of video and adding an edit by 1 frame in or out.  This works because the clip on the timeline (before adding the edit) doesn't end or start on a frame.  It actually sits inbetween a frame.  

Three cameras:  2 CANON 5D's and 1 AMIRA 

All transcoded in a 1080 23.976p project (that's how this footage was shot) and then brought into a 720p 59.94project (the airing format).  

Any ideas?  This is a new project.

Audio suite crashes MC

I seem to be having an issue with a new install 2018-xx and new mac pro. when I load a audio suite fx on an audio clip ie: normalize  then open it it it will preview well but when it try to render it craches MC no diff if I hit render in A/S app or render button on timeline..... Ideas???

Re-batch import after using source browser

Hello, 

We use a Sony Fs7 to shoot. It records in .mxf but I can not import media it gives me an error message: Invalid file format. 

So I have to your the source browser to import which transcodes the clips... I have several clips offline that I need to batch-reimport but can not seem to do so because of the transcode. 

 

Can anyone help.

Hi There,

I recently upgraded a Mac PRO to Mac OS 10.13 from 10.9 without realizing that my MC version 8.3 is incompatible with this OS. Long story short, I ran the uninstaller on MC in order to temporarily install Media Composer First just so I could access my Avid MediaFiles while I work getting funding for an upgrade to the latest version of MC.

The uninstaller crashed halfway through the process (I'm assuming this is because it too is not compatible with OS 10.13) and when I went to re-run it, the uninstaller was gone. So I tried installing MC First to see what would happen and I'm getting an error saying I can't install it because a version of MC is already on the computer. So I manually trashed all the MC files in the applications folder and went through my Library > App Support and trashed the Avid folder and also trashed the Avid Utilities folder...still MC First won't install. So basically I searched anything Avid and trashed it all...short of project files and Avid MediaFiles...tried MC First again, still no luck.

I'm at a loss, what am I missing here?

Any help or suggestions much appreciated!
